Full Time Registered Nurse Position

Lisaard House/Innisfree House are residential hospices in Cambridge and Kitchener providing quality palliative care to individuals, in a home like setting, to those with a terminal diagnosis

Reporting to Resident Care Manager and in collaboration with the care team, the RN assesses the complex needs of our residents and develops, implements and evaluates the plan of care for palliative residents and their families at end-of-life. The RN has specialized training in pain and symptom management and understands the philosophy of hospice palliative care. The RN ensures that his/her practice is evidence-based and utilizes the assessment tools approved by CNO, Hospice Palliative Care Ontario and Cancer Care Ontario. The Registered Nurse takes an active leadership role directing the resident plan of care, problem solving operational issues, and utilizing critical thinking and conflict management skills to resolve resident, family and staff issues. 


  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • RN with minimum of 3 years palliative experience
  • New Grads with experience in a palliative setting will be considered
  • Community experience in palliative care is an asset
  • CHPCN and/or additional palliative education is an asset
  • Has completed the Fundamentals of Palliative Care Course or equivalent prior to the completion of the probationary period
  • Must possess basic computer literacy and willingness to learn the computer documentation used at Lisaard House.
  • A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) is required prior to the start date

Functional Responsibilities:

The individual is physically capable of working a flexible schedule with a 24 hour/7 days a week operation.

Successful applicants are expected to be available to all work shifts at either location.

The responsibilities of this position involve significant physical activities including: standing for prolonged periods, lifting up to 20 pounds unassisted, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, twisting and repetitive movements.  All employees will be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents.  Lifting and/or transferring some residents will require use of a lifting device and /or assistance of other staff.

Ability to function in the presence of each of the following commonly encountered environmental factors:

  • Noxious smells; chemicals
  • Disease agents
  • Noise and distractions
  • Unpredictable behaviour of others.
